How to Create Your Own Book Cover
Having a good book cover that captures a potential reader’s eye can make the difference between becoming a bestselling author or disappearing into obscurity.
Obviously, the ability to write well and tell a provocative story is essential to an author’s success, but first impressions matter. Consider how many books you haven’t picked up off a shelf to further investigate solely based on appearance.
Quality graphic designers do not come cheap. As a self-published author, you may have to design your own book cover. Unless you’re multi-talented as both a writer and graphic design artist, this can be a daunting task. Thankfully, there are tools out there that can help.
In this video, I will walk you through how I create my own professional looking covers for my books with little to no expense. From start to finish, I will design a sample cover using three software applications: GIMP, Microsoft Paint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. My “free for commercial use” images come from Pixabay.
Once you become familiar with the tools and the process, you will be able to design your own professional covers with ease.
